Mystified
Mystified
Acrylic with cut painted paper on canvas. 24 x 30" x1"
In this painting, the main androgynous figure is a powerful religious figure. In the right hand the figure is holding a feather. According to some myths-feathers blow in the wind & carry prayers to the Creator hopefully evoking the spirits to bring rain and keep harmful entities at bay.
The dark blue background has 7 stars-representing the Seven Sisters.
I used the Cross as a symbol of how religious beliefs are intertwined. Old temples are buried under cathedrals. Elements of ancient ritual ceremonies are incorporated into the new religious interpretation.
Birds-
I put birds on the eyes- Birds eye view of life! They are soaring through the sky with their eyes wide open!
I like the old saying "See the soul through ones eyes”
Ancient peoples believe that 2 crows are good luck and that the thunderbird is the bird of happiness so I incorporated those elements on the figures. The necklace represents a rosary.
I have taken progression photos of this painting in several stages. The first stage had the main figure wearing a different color robe, and the back ground was a lighter blue. For this final version- I glazed the faces and deepened the colors.
I wanted the painting to be spiritually evocative.
